Notions of readiness...
I think children all have different ways and techniques they use to get "ready" for the next goal. As well, we as teachers all have different ways we teach the children to achieve their goal of readiness. To help the students achieve readiness for the next thing coming or even the next grade coming, we as teachers need to make sure the students have all mastered the previous thing we were trying to teach them and not only should they have it mastered but we should review it with them before beginning whatever new is being taught. Once you are "ready" to have the children move forward to a new study or even a new grade, you as the teacher need to talk with the students about what is coming, what they need to look for, and be "ready" for.

I completely agree that we as teachers need to make sure that students grasps concepts before they go onto the next grade level. The only thing is that sometimes not all teachers want to go over the material more then once because it might inconvenienced them. I have actually had teachers like that in the past and looking back now I never really remember grasping that concept. I also agree with what you said about reviewing the material to make sure that students understand it. Another good way would be to practice the material enough to make sure that students completely understand it.
ReplyDeleteI agree with this post. I like how it was said even after the students are ready to move on to the next lesson or grade, we as a teacher need to talk with the students about what to expect in the future. I thought it was interesting how you mentioned that students and teachers both have different ways that we prepare the students to be ready for the next goal.
